The Sylas Update

The Phantom Mage has arrived! Vindictus' first new mercenary to arrive since Arisha came a year ago, Sylas is a spell-slinging skirmisher with a powerful dagger and enough tricks to keep him one step ahead of his foes. Take a look at Sylas and his arsenal of spells and attacks below!

Primary Weapon: The Phantom Dagger

Sylas tears apart his foes with the aid of a new type of weapon, the Phantom Dagger. No mere close-quarters knife, Sylas has enchanted the blade with powerful magic that can sling the blade wherever he wishes. Each of his Normal Attacks sends the blade out to slice nearby foes, returning to Sylas's hand in time for the next strike. The quick strikes and long range lets Sylas dart in and out of the melee, building up his Combos and escaping before the hammer can fall.

Combos and Phantom Shards

Sylas' Combo attacks function much the same as many other mercenaries, using a combination of Normal Attacks to lead into Smash Attacks to trigger powerful strikes, including a heavy uppercut to send weaker foes flying and a spectral disc carving through all enemies in its path.

Sylas' Combos also come with a special bonus. Each Normal Attack from Sylas will create a Phantom Shard, orbiting the mage as he fights. When Sylas makes a Smash Attack, each of these Shards will fly at his enemy, dealing extra damage on top of the Smash Attack's violent impact. These shards serve a second purpose as well: If some foe does manage to land a blow, the Shards will be expended, absorbing a portion of the damage to keep the mystical skirmisher on his feet.

Full Ability List

In addition to the normal list of Masteries and Training common to all Mercenaries, Sylas can train in a variety of Active, Passive and Combo skills to help him take apart the Fomors wherever they lie.

Vision Dash

Dodge Skill

Sylas can dodge enemies with a burst of Phantom Magic, teleporting him in whichever direction he's moving. Unlike most other Dodge skills, there's no need to worry about enemies in his path getting in the way: Sylas will simply pass through them like a gentle breeze, appearing on the other side (although other solid objects will still impede his progress). If no direction is selected, he will dart backwards. As with other Dodge skills, Sylas is immune to most forms of damage while dodging. Trained upon character creation.

Phantom Shooter

Combo: N-N-S+

After a pair of Normal Attacks, Sylas can use Smash Attacks to hit his foes with small discs, each shot hitting a single foe. The Phantom Shooter can be triggered with one Smash Attack after another, sending out volleys of spectral strikes for as long as Sylas has Stamina. If a movement key is pressed during the Smash Attack, Sylas will dart in that direction during the attack, keeping him on the move and away from enemy attacks. All aspects of Phantom Shooter are usable without training (Starting at Level 5). Will trigger any stored Phantom Shards.

Illusion Shield

Active Skill - 250 SP, No Cooldown

Sylas isn't completely about offense. When he casts his Illusion Shield, he and up to three other party members will begin to regenerate HP over 15 seconds. If a player under the effect of an Illusion Shield is hit by an enemy attack, the shield will collapse, ceasing regeneration but reducing the attack's damage by 50% of the health not yet restored. Trainable at Level 12.

Wraith Slash

Combo: N-S

Sylas' good ol' one-two. After a quick slash with his Phantom Dagger, Sylas strikes foes in front of him with a heavy uppercut, a blow powerful enough to send lighter foes flying. While a simple Combo, this attack is the fastest trigger for your stored Phantom Shards. The Combo can also be used without Skill Training (starting at Level 15).

Cyclone Edge

Combo: N-N-N-S

The third of Sylas' main Combo's, the Cyclone Edge is Sylas' answer to a mass of Fomor aggression. After a triplet of Normal Attacks, Sylas can use a Smash Attack to send out a set of spectral daggers to fly around him, cutting into every nearby enemy. This Combo can be used without Skill Training (starting at Level 18), and will trigger any stored Phantom Shards.

Wraith Shot

Combo: N-S-S or N-S-Dodge-S (C Rank)

This extension of Sylas' basic Combo adds a bit of range to the melee Smash. After performing the Wraith Slash attack (N-S), a second Smash Attack will send three Phantom Daggers forward, carving into any Fomors unlucky enough to be in their way. When trained to Rank C, the Wraith Shot attack can also be used after a Wraith Slash followed by a Vision Dash dodge, in case the ground Sylas stood on is no longer quite so safe. Trainable at Level 20.

Phantom Force

Passive Skill

While the Phantom Shards already do a lot, be it a burst of damage after a basic Combo or a defensive shield should someone actually manage to hurt Sylas, the Phantom Force passive skill unlocks three buffs that trigger and stacks with each Phantom Shard triggered by a Combo. The first effect, Phantom Force: Blade, gives Sylas a simple but effective boost to Magic Attack.

If Sylas goes untouched for 30 seconds with Phantom Force active, the power shifts to the Phantom Force: Hilt buff, giving a larger Magic Attack boost and stamina regeneration for the duration, or until struck. If the worst should happen and Sylas's HP drops below 30% while Phantom Force is active, then the Phantom Force: Guard effect will begin, significantly increasing DEF and restoring HP every second. The more you attack with Phantom Shards, the stronger this effect will become, stacking up to six times. Trainable at Level 24.

Cyclone Crash

Combo: N-N-N-S-S, N-N-N-S-S(Hold) (C Rank) or N-N-N-S-Dodge-S (B Rank)

Cyclone Crash is the attack for when Cyclone Edge just isn't enough of a hint for the Fomors. After performing the Cyclone Edge Combo (N-N-N-S), Sylas can make one more Smash attack, slamming the ground and dealing heavy damage to any enemies still nearby. Once trained up to Rank C, the attack can be charged up, dealing massive damage once your special friends get into position. Finally, at Rank B, Sylas can mix in a Vision Dash as well, darting over to deliver the heavy smash to enemies trying to keep their distance. Trainable at Level 26.

Spectral Sting

Active Skill:  250 SP, 10s Cooldown
Castable: S(Hold)-Move Left

An attack of pure magic, Sylas conjures up a set of six Phantom Daggers and fires them at his foes, each dagger unerringly seeking a mark. In addition to being activated from a Quick Slot or the SP Skill Quick slot, Sylas can also cast this from his Casting menu: Hold Smash Attack and select the left skill to cast it without needing to devote a quick slot. Trainable at Level 28.

Cyclone Saw

Combo: N-N-N-N-S

Cyclone Saw is the most powerful of Sylas' basic Combos. After a quartet of Normal Attacks, Sylas' Smash Attack will summon a massive cyclone of phantom power and send it forward, carving through foes in its path. The first foe in the way will take the brunt of the attack, with the damage of the Cyclone Saw diminishing by 20% with each foe it slams into. This Combo can be used without Skill Training (Level 30) and will trigger any stored Phantom Shards.

Soul Drain

Active Skill:  250 SP, 30s Cooldown

A secondary healing spell, Soul Drain allows nearby allies to gain a portion of the damage they deal restored as HP. This life leech ability can affect up to four party members, including Sylas himself, but the more mercenaries affected by the spell, the shorter it will last. Best used in rotation with Illusion Shield, or during periods of heavy combat. Trainable at Level 32.

Vision Trap

Combo: Dodge-S

Sylas is a master skirmisher, and even his escapes can contain a deadly strike. After a Vision Dash dodge, Sylas can use a Smash Attack to trigger a Vision Trap attack. If still moving during the Smash Attack, he will spin forward again with a spinning Phantom Dagger summoned before him, flying forward and clearing more room for Sylas to move. If he stops moving before the Smash Attack, the Vision Trap will summon a heavy, point-blank explosion of Phantom Magic, pushing Sylas back a few paces as it devastates anyone trying to turn his dodge against him. Trainable at Level 34.

Phantasmic Slash

Active Skill: 500 SP, 90s Cooldown
Castable: S(Hold)-Move Right

Sylas' second Castable Active Skill, Phantasmic Slash is his most powerful Area of Effect attack. Once casted, an area, three meters in radius will be filled with a cyclone of spectral energy. Enemies within will find their progress slowed as they try to fight their way through the growing tempest, eventually dealing three times more damage it did at the start. The attack will last for 10 seconds and only damage Sylas' foes, making it an excellent way to control the battlefield. Trainable at Level 36.

Spirit Rend

Timing Combo: N-N-N-N(Timed)

Phantom Shards are the seasoning to Sylas' bread-and-butter attacks, and can be stored up to six at a time. Sylas can only normally gain one Phantom Shard per Normal Attack, however if the fourth Normal Attack in the four Attack sequence is made just as the dagger returns to Sylas' hand, he will perform a Spirit Rend attack, dealing bonus damage and generating three Phantom Shards instead of just one. If successful, this will cause the entire four-hit Normal Attack Combo to generate the maximum of six Phantom Shards, and can then lead into a fully powered Cyclone Saw Combo. Trainable at Level 40.

Illusion Fist

Combo: N-N-N-N-S-S, N-N-N-N-S-S(Hold) or N-N-N-N-S-Dodge-S

The final Combo for Sylas is the Illusion Fist, which follows up the mighty Cyclone Saw by charging forward and unleashing a massive blast of pure phantom energy, hitting harder than just about anything else in Sylas' arsenal. Once trained up to Rank C, Sylas can charge the attack by holding the Smash Attack until the opportune moment. At Rank B, Sylas can Vision Dash away from his spot after the Cyclone Saw attack, and then launch the Illusion Fist attack. Trainable at Level 42.

Extinction Roar

Active Skill: 750 SP, 180s Cooldown

For the most powerful of foes, Sylas needs the most powerful of his attacks. When first used, the Extinction Roar tags one of Sylas' foes for 30 seconds, giving Sylas the Phantom Caller effect. Over that time, every Phantom Shard that damages the marked target will give Sylas a stacking Phantom Stigma effect (up to 20 stacks). When Extinction Roar is used again with Phantom Caller still active, Sylas will summon a barrage of powerful Phantom Daggers, each one devastating the marked target, empowered even further by the stacking Phantom Stigma effect. Don't dawdle, though: If the Phantom Caller effect ends before Extinction Roar is used again, the spell collapses and no damage is dealt. Trainable at Level 44.

Impulse Zone

Active Skill: 250 SP, 90s Cooldown

The best spellcasters think of their allies as much as themselves, and his Impulse Zone is the perfect tool for supporting Sylas' party. When used, it will mark a wide area, empowering Sylas and his allies that stand within. Damage taken is heavily reduced, Attack and Magic Attack are boosted high and everyone's Stamina will be quickly restored every second. Keep in mind that this effect only lasts as long as you remain in the Impulse Zone. Trained at Level 48.

Ultimate Attack: Infinity Requiem

Sylas may excel at striking his opponents (and then leaping out of the way), but that doesn't make every swing a lightweight attack. After building up enough SP, Sylas can unleash the Infinity Requiem, an attack that summons dozens of spectral blades, sending each one into his unfortunate target over and over, leading up to one last, powerful strike where all the knives tear through his foe at once. Be sure to use it on foes with large health pools, because the 20 minute cooldown means you don't want to waste the attack.
